Dag 59 Dessi na Lalibela Ethiopia

Die GPS wys ‘n kortpad na Lalibela, ons kontoleer dit nie met ons kaarte nie en beland in baie interssante paadjie, deur berge en klowe. Baie keer moet ons in donkierat teen die bulte uit so steil is dit. Ons ry tussen klein villages deur en sien hoe die plaaslike mense lewe. Hierdie deel van Ethiopie is baie bergagtig met die steilste passe, dit lyk amper soos in Lesotho, tot 3300 m hoog, geen wonder die bakkies en ons bors trek toe nie. Boek in by Maribela hotel wat teen die kranse hang.

The GPS shows a short-cut to Lalibela. We do not check this route against our maps and end up on a very interesting little road, winding through mountains and valleys. At times the road is so steep that we need to resort to using donkey-gear to reach the top. We meander through small villages and so we see how the locals live. This part of Ethiopia is very mountainous with the steepest passes. It is reminiscent of Lesotho, in certain places up to 3300m above sea level. No small wonder the vehicles and travelers alike are choking and experiencing difficulty breathing.

We overnight in the Maribela Hotel which is built on top of a cliff overlooking the valley below.
