Again we go to see the source of the Blue Nile where it flows out of Lake Tana. We drive to Gonder and we jump in the tuk-tuks: we are driven around through the narrow streets and throngs of people as if we are stars in a James Bond movie.

We go to the Royal Enclosure where Emperors had castles built. It is difficult to imagine that such huge castles were constructed in the late 1600s when Jan van Riebeeck only built the castle we know.

There are six castles in this fortress city within Gondar, built by Emperor Fasil Ghebbi and his successors. There is a huge reception hall where the Emperor received visitors from foreign countries. His tame Ethiopian lions lay next to his feet ? probably to stimulate dialogue.

Late afternoon we drive to Lake Tana to set up camp.
